Sophia Yates & Kit Fraser, Hootananny, Brixton
The Hootananny puts on live music up to six nights a week. Their programme includes singer songwriters and full live bands of up to 12 members and the genres include folk, reggae, jazz, Latin, gypsy, dub, soul, funk, hip hop, heavy electro, swing, jazz and contemporary urban.
The team at the Hootananny listen to every act that approaches them and search for the very best that play the festival circuit and beyond. However they go one step further by supporting local visual artists both by the painting of their beer garden benches and wall murals in the pub, and for their print design for their posters and giglist. They also host quarterly Art Fairs to display and sell their works. The Hootananny also supports local and international writers at their quarterly BookJam, when approximately 10 writers read for five minutes each from their published or non-published work to an enthusiastic audience of readers.
On one Wednesday a month the Hootananny plays host to a hip hop dance team, Floor Rippers Element Jam, with musicians, dancers, MCs and fans who give battle and jam. Another Wednesday they host Live Band Karaoke for the customers to sing their favourite rock or pop hit with a four piece band and sound engineer behind them. This is all complemented by their street food offer with independent food stalls presenting food inside and outside with mouth-watering world food quality menus.
